Федеративные Штаты Микронезии, ФШМ Государство в западной части Тихого ок., в Микронезии, в арх. Каролинские острова (Центральной и Вост. Каролины). 701.4 кв. км. Население св. 103 тыс. человек (1992), главным образом микронезийцы различных этнических групп (наиболее крупная – трукцы, на островах Трук). Большинство верующих – христиане (протестанты и католики). Официальный язык – английский. Столица – Паликир (на о. Понпеи). ФШМ – федерация 4-х островных групп: острова Косрае, Понпеи, Трук и Яп, образующих 4 штата. Глава государства и правительства – президент. Законодательный орган – Национальный Конгресс. Все крупные острова вулканического происхождения (высота до 791 м), окружены коралловыми рифами. Вечнозеленые тропические леса, саванны; на крупных коралловых островах преобладают кокосовая пальма и панданус.
